This national park is located east of Arusha town and is divided into three distinct areas: Ngurdoto Crater, Momela Lakes and Mount Meru. The black and white colobus is a rare monkey native to Tanzania. With the exception of lions and rhinoceroses, you will see all kinds of wildlife and hundreds of different species of sedentary or migratory birds. Hide-outs have been created for observation. On clear days magnificent views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru can be seen from almost any part of the park.
Activities: Climb Mount Meru (4566 m) through a variety of landscapes; plains, forest, moorlands, and a lava desert. It is compulsory to be accompanied by an armed park warden because of the animals (elephants and buffaloes). From the summit, you will have an impressive view of the Ngurdoto Crater. The climb is 3 days round-trip and the best months to climb are from July to february. Drizzles in November.
